Lossless, transparency included
The PNG is written at quality 100 — a pixel-exact copy of the PSD’s flattened image, and where the document carries an alpha channel, the transparency survives into the PNG. That makes this the right exit for logos, UI assets and cut-outs headed to the web or a slide deck. For photos where file size matters more than perfection, PSD to JPG lands much smaller.
What converts and what does not
8-bit RGB and grayscale PSDs convert; CMYK and 16/32-bit are refused with a clear message — re-save as 8-bit RGB first. Layers are not exported individually: the composite is the deliverable. The resulting PNG can go straight into Compress PNG if it needs to lose weight afterwards.

Is transparency preserved?
Yes — when the flattened composite carries an alpha channel, the PNG keeps it. Areas that were transparent in the design stay transparent.
Is the conversion really lossless?
