What comes out of a PSD
A PSD carries the layered project plus a flattened preview of how it looked when saved — that flattened image is what converts, pixel-exact at full resolution. Layers, masks and smart objects are design-time machinery; they are not exported separately. The result is set to quality 90 by default — a faithful copy, adjustable before you run. Need transparency kept? PSD to PNG is the lossless sibling.
The honest limits
8-bit RGB and grayscale documents convert; CMYK and 16/32-bit files are refused with a clear message rather than mangled — re-save them as 8-bit RGB first. Files saved with “Maximize Compatibility” off may carry no flattened preview and can fail to open. This is a converter, not an editor: for tweaks you still need an image tool, but for “send me a JPG of that design”, this is the shortest path.

Do I need Photoshop installed?
No — the file is parsed and flattened by the decoder in this page, on your device. Nothing is installed and nothing leaves your browser.
Are individual layers exported?
No — the flattened composite converts as one image, exactly as the file looked when saved. Layer-by-layer export needs an editor.
Why is my PSD refused?
Most refusals are CMYK color or 16/32-bit depth — re-save as 8-bit RGB and it will convert. Very old or preview-less files (Maximize Compatibility off) can also fail to parse.
Are my design files uploaded?
Yes. The conversion happens entirely on your device — the image is read, re-encoded and saved without ever touching a network. There is no server-side queue, no temporary copy in some bucket, nothing to expire or leak. Want proof? Run one file through, switch your connection off, and run another — it still works.
