What vectorization really does

Tracing rebuilds the picture as geometric shapes instead of pixels: the result stays razor-sharp at any size and opens as editable paths in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma. Ideal inputs are logos, icons, stickers and drawings with flat color areas. Photographs are the wrong input — the tracer approximates them with hundreds of overlapping shapes and the SVG usually ends up larger than the PNG; for photos, Compress PNG or PNG to WebP is the right tool. The reverse trip lives on SVG to PNG.

Color or black & white

Color mode clusters similar colors into stacked vector layers — right for full-color logos and illustrations. Black & white mode traces a single-color stencil: perfect for cut files, stamps and one-color printing. The Detail slider trades fidelity for simplicity — higher keeps small shapes and more color steps, lower merges them into cleaner, lighter paths.

Frequently asked questions

Which images vectorize well?

Logos, icons, lettering, stickers and flat illustrations — anything with clear edges and few distinct colors. Screenshots and photographs trace poorly; they become heavy approximations.

Why is my SVG bigger than the PNG?

Complex or photographic images need hundreds of paths to approximate, and paths cost bytes. That is the honest trade of tracing — for simple graphics the SVG is small; for photos it rarely is.

Can I edit the result afterwards?

Yes — the output is standard SVG paths, fully editable in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or any vector editor: recolor shapes, delete layers, refine curves.

Is it private?

Yes. The conversion happens entirely on your device — the image is read, re-encoded and saved without ever touching a network. There is no server-side queue, no temporary copy in some bucket, nothing to expire or leak. Want proof? Run one file through, switch your connection off, and run another — it still works.
