The RAW everything speaks — almost

DNG is the openly documented RAW container: phones with pro mode, drones, and Lightroom-converted archives all write it. What they don’t do is open everywhere — plenty of apps and forms still want a plain JPG, which is exactly the develop this page performs (demosaic, camera white balance, sRGB). Mixed RAW batches belong on the RAW converter, and Compress JPG squeezes the results to any cap.

Why phone DNGs look flatter than the phone’s JPG

A phone’s JPG is not one photo — it is a stack of exposures merged, tone-mapped, denoised and sharpened by the camera pipeline. The DNG next to it is a single exposure’s sensor data, and a standard develop renders exactly that: honest colors, less punch, more visible noise in the shadows. Nothing is wrong; the computational layer simply is not in the negative.

That flatness is the point — it is editing headroom. Treat the developed JPG as a neutral base for your own adjustments, and when you just want the phone look with no editing, the phone’s own JPG already is that look — shoot RAW+JPG and use each for what it is.

Where do DNG files come from?

Phone pro/RAW modes (Pixel, iPhone via apps), DJI drones, and Adobe tooling that converts brand RAWs to DNG for archiving. All of these develop here.

Does it handle compressed DNG?

Standard lossless-compressed and uncompressed DNGs develop fine. Exotic variants (lossy proxies from some apps) usually work too — the tool tells you clearly when one does not.

Is the original DNG changed?

Never — the negative on your disk stays untouched. You download a newly developed JPG copy next to it.

Are my photos uploaded?

No — the pixels never leave your machine. Decoding and re-encoding both happen in your browser; there is no upload to wait for and no server-side copy to worry about afterwards. Want proof? Run one file through, switch your connection off, and run another — it still works.
